PA Turnpike 476 NE ExtensionHS

Milepost A31.34 to A37.39, Montgomery County, PA

This $225M project consists of the full depth roadway reconstruction and widening of the Pennsylvania Turnpike; building it out from two lanes in each direction to three lanes in each direction and the replacement of four mainline bridges.

The project scope includes:


  • Demolition of one single-span steel bridge, two single-span reinforced concrete T-beam bridges, one three-span continuous steel bridge
  • The construction of two single span composite pre-stressed concrete box beam bridges, one single span composite pre-stressed concrete bulb-tee bridge, one three-span composite pre-stressed concrete bulb-tee bridge
  • Three box culverts extensions
  • One arch culvert extension
  • One box culvert replacement
  • Five mechanically stabilized earth retaining walls
  • Nine sound barrier walls
  • Three monopipe sign structures, and one monotube dynamic message sign structure
  • Thirty-nine basins/rain gardens
  • Over 500,000 tons of HMA paving
  • Nearly two-million cubic yards of excavation/embankment
  • The project was bid with an aggressive schedule beginning in early 2018 and is scheduled for completion in the summer of 2021.
